Techer Treat #4

Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So enjoy the people and things who bring you joy.. Forget about those who don't. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would... be easy, they just promised it would most likely be worth it . . .

I hope you are enjoying your new technology equipment. I am here for support, so please let me know how I can help. Technology Support Request Form - https://spreadsheets.google.com/a/wvde.k12.wv.us/viewform?formkey=dFBUNXN4M0VSTlBnelgzU0lYUmRPZGc6MA.. (This is also on homepage under Teacher Links.)
Are you ready to play with Google Earth? Visit the following link for Tutorials, Examples and Links for Google Earth ~ http://wvde.state.wv.us/technology/resources/google/earth/index.php

Please comment on how you are enjoying your new equipment and websites. Techer Treat!

Techer Treat Number 3

I think you will find these sites useful to use with whiteboards or projectors to enhance math lessons. The first site is Apples for the Teacher which includes interactive learning games, quizzes, and worksheet generator tools by subject. Click on the math tab to find an interactive 100’s chart, geometry, measurement, money, and time games, plus many other resources.
Here is a free and quick Download, “Kids and Cookies” to investigate fractions.
TeacherLed.com provides teaching and learning resources to make the use of the interactive whiteboard in the classroom easier and more productive. The following are two useful tools I found while visiting the site.
Interactive Clock- this large interactive clock is a great tool to solving problems dealing with time.
Cell Phone Math- use the interactive cell phone activity to solve area and percent problems.
Finally, for Langage Arts instruction here is a link to 20 graphic organizers from Thinkport.

Second Helping of Techer Treat

Assessments Made Easy!
ProProfs Quiz School enables you to create & find online quizzes for learning or fun. This online quiz maker provides immediate feedback to students and reports for the teacher. Visit this site and be sure to “Take a Tour.” This is by far the best that I have come across for free. Let me know how you like it.
That Quiz is a great math resource that I have used. Here you will find practice activities ready to engage your students. A teacher can create an account, make quizzes to post in their portal and review scores once the quiz has been completed.
We are on our way to a paperless classroom. However,
Math Fact Café is a site to create fast math practice worksheets. No account is needed to find or make endless math practice sheets that would be great for homework assignments or grading.

Techer Treat - Happy October

The October posts are going to focus on teachers' fun with technology. The first treat comes from a Web 2.0 resource. FONTS- http://www.ffonts.net/ Here you will find numerous free fonts to download to Microsoft Word. Play it safe and only install 3 of your absolute favorites. Many of these fonts are decorative and/or great to use once.

Visit the site and find something you like
Download
Save to a folder in the "ThawSpace" (I have a folder named fonts)
Once saved . . . Right click on "Font" go down to "extract all "
Set location of extracted files to go (ThawSpace)-click extract To open new file-
Right click on "True Type Font File" and go down to install- . . . continue

I leave the creative font in the folder in my thaw space and when I need something different I install the font. Create, print, save as a PDF. Other computers will not recognize creative fonts. Remember, play safe and have fun. Happy October.

Nothing But GOOD NEWS!

The computers are getting set up sooner than expected! The Tech Crew will be out to OVI the week of Oct. 5th. Early next week, I will let you know what equipment will be coming to your classroom so you can make room for its setup.
Education City is ready for use. Elaine has gone around putting the short cut login for students on each computer. If you have misplaced your codes to log in, I have them posted in my area. Yesterday all of the students were uploaded into “Success Tracker.” You will need to login with the special features code to see your classes. To move or remove students within your current Success Tracker classes, use the new Annual Class Transfer feature. This can be found within the Features section and will automatically transfer the student and their work across to their new class. I am planning on setting up a peer to peer training on this site for the end of October. We can learn from each other once we start using the site.
During October’s collaboration meetings, I will be leading you in the creation of your Edline Webpage. Don't worry, we are going to keep sites very simple this year. The plan is to send activation codes home to parents with the first marking period report cards.
Visit the blog each Friday in October for a “Techer Treat” post. Something special just for teachers!
