Steps to View/Print Group Reports from WV Writes

Currently, students are not able to print their score reports in the WV Writes site. They are working on fixing this glitch.
A teacher may view and print his/her entire class score results for an essay by following these steps.
1. Click the Report Results check box and then click Go.
2. Click Group Reports, select Writing List and click Next.
3. Click on the Edit icon beside "Group or Tag Group," select class, and save. (The "Proficiency Scale" is already set. Test cut-off scores and Report label are optional).
4. To save report in PDF form to view/print later (optional), click Generate Report in PDF check box.
5. Type a label or name for your report (optional).
6. In the "Select Test" section click the down arrow and check the test name. Scroll down and click Create.
7. If you chose to generate a PDF, you will see a message that your report has been queued. When complete, the PDF will be stored for 7 days in your My Reports folder for you to view and/or print. Click "My Reports," the PDF icon, and "open" for your report.
8. If you did not choose to generate a PDF, wait for the report to process and display in a new window for you to view right away.
9. To print, click the View All Printable link and click the "green" Print button.
I prefer the PDF print out.

. . . and a’writing we will go!

Here are a couple helpful tips.
It is a good idea to have your students “bookmark” their work after each paragraph they type. This will prevent them from losing their work should they get kicked out of the site or have computer problems.
Sometimes the site can be very slow to score students’ work. The past two times this has occurred the classes needed to close out of the program without completing the scoring. The next morning the scores were available. Also, as a teacher you will want to make assignments a day in advance.
Students using the site:
Students must allow pop-ups by clicking in the bar between the tabs and webpage and clicking “Always allow pop-ups from this site.”
Once in the site they will need to “highlight” the assignment name by clicking on it. After the assignment name appears in a yellow bar click on the blue “Go” in the bottom right corner. Read prompt and continue.
When students have finished typing their essays, they can view their work on one page by clicking on the magnifying glass in the top right of screen. They also have the option to print from here. Essays print nicely if the students remember to space between paragraphs by pressing enter three times. Close this window after viewing and/or printing.
To save, students need to click “Bookmark” and then “Bookmark” again in the pop-up window. If you have set your essay up in the “interactive” mode they can choose “score.”
Yes, students’ scores can also be printed.
For more information you can view the WV Writes Quick Reference Guide, Student’s Guide and/or Teacher’s Guide.

WV Writes and OVI Rocks!

Congratulations to Kathy M. for being the first teacher to have her students using the new and improved "Writing Roadmap" site. Here is some good news: her fifth grade students had no trouble using the new WVWrites site. I enjoyed working with the 12 teachers who joined together in the Writing Lab to get classes and assignments set up for students. Together we found the site to have all the features of the old site, with some added ones. Navigation of the site takes the same path as the old site; however, some of the tabs are in a different places, which makes them difficult to see at first. The few teachers that have used the site already have all reported back to me the the site is slow to score students' work. The students are not receiving their scores; however, if you view reports as a teacher the next morning the scores and reports are available.
Updating this site: I have posted the following link for getting new students into the WVWrites site as well as some others. This link can be found under "Teacher Resource Links" and "Updating Students into Assessment Sites."
Please take time to share your positive and negative experiences with the new WV Writes site. Let's all grow together in helping our students become better writers with the use of this new assessment site.
